The Forge Restaurant, Kilbride Cross

The Forge Restaurant, located in the heart of the Irish farming countryside in county Carlow, prides itself on combining the best of Irish cooking traditions with quality local produce. Open since June 2001, owner Mary Jordan and her team have become well renowned for their scones, jam, tarts and large hearty dinners. Providing quality and value is key to Mary’s success. Her support of local suppliers ensures the freshest of produce and the highest standards of traceability.

The Forge is less than 1km from the majestic Altamont Gardens, donated to the State by Corona North and maintained by the OPW, the gardens are open year round and regularly host walking tours and gardening events. The adjoining walled garden  is home to Robert Miller’s wonderful nursery which displays a large collection of inspiring plants for your own garden. Children love the rambling and carefree walk down to the Slaney River.

Not surprisingly ‘The Forge’ gets its name from a blacksmith’s forge that once occupied the site. Situated on a four cross roads the old forge stood alongside a post office and shop  – it was the center of community life for those who lived in the townlands of Kilbride, Boggan, Sherwood, Knockdoorish and Milltown.
